Clear the Shelters: Come find your FUR-ever friend in Pender Co.

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - WECT is teaming up with local animal shelters in the national event, Clear the Shelters. The goal is to ultimately get every single animal adopted within the shelters.

One local shelter, the Pender County Humane Society, is participating in the event and it has a ton of furry friends available for adoption.

At this shelter they have two buildings. One holds dogs and cats who have living spaces indoors and outdoors so they can roam around. They also have a building for kittens where they can all play together and get all their energy out.

The Pender County Humane Society is a no kill shelter so they keep the pets they bring in until they find a new family. Some of these animals have been there longer than others. As much as the staff thinks of their animals as family, they cant wait to see them go to a great family.

The shelter wants people to know that with this event and any other adoption process you can't just sign an application and take the animal home.
They go through a special process, almost like an interview, to make sure that the animal they send off goes to a home where it will receive the love and care that it needs.

The event will take place this Saturday, Aug. 18, and the Pender County Humane Society will be discounting their adoption fee half price.

The shelter opens at 11 a.m. and they are hoping that everyone who comes will fall in love with the animals, just like they have.
