Clear the Shelters: Come find your FUR-ever friend in Brunswick Co.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - WECT is teaming up with local animal shelters in the fourth annual National event, Clear the Shelter.  The goal is ultimately get every single animal adopted within the shelters.

One local shelter, Brunswick County Animal Services Unit, is participating in the event and they have a ton of furry friends available for adoption. As much as the shelter loves its animals, they want to see them going to great homes.

It's always a good time to adopt a pet. The shelter encourages the community to stop by and take a look at all the animals they have. And to make the decision even easier, adoption fees will be waived or discounted for the event.

"We do like I said have a lot of cats, and that's one thing we want to make sure that we are encouraging our community  to spay and neuter their pets because the fewer animals we take into our shelter the fewer we have to place," said Emily Flax with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.

All animals are spayed and neutered once they come to the shelter. They do this to stop the chance of anymore animals ending up homeless.

Clear the Shelters event will take place at the Brunswick County Animal Services Unit on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m.
