The UNCW women’s basketball team has added North Carolina transfer Dazia Powell.
Due to injury, Powell did not play in her one season at UNC. She will sit out the 2018-19 season and will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Seahawks.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Dazia and her family to the program,” Seahawk head coach Karen Barefoot said in a UNCW news release. “She is a proven winner who is competitive and has a high skill set. She will bring a championship mentality and a great deal of leadership to our program.”
Powell, a Raleigh native, was a McDonald’s All-America nominee and all-conference selection at Millbrook High School. She averaged 14 points, six rebounds and six assists per game as a junior while leading Millbrook to a 4A state championship. She was named the Most Outstanding Player in the championship game.
As a senior, Powell averaged 13 points per game for the Wildcats.
