WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officials with the Wilmington Police Department say a mother fatally shot her 2-year-old son before turning the gun on herself in a murder-suicide Tuesday morning.
According to officials, a police officer was flagged down by a family member just before 11:20 a.m. about a possible situation described in dispatch records as a "female wanting to hurt a child" at 5705 Andrews Reach Loop in the Andrews Reach subdivision off Masonboro Loop Road.
When police entered the home, they found Alissa Frey, 34, and her two-year-old son dead from gunshot wounds.
Police say Frey left a note behind to family expressing her intentions to end her life.
The family member, who flagged down the police officer, was made aware of the note and went to the house to check on Frey and the child.
Police say no one else was inside or outside the home at the time of the shootings.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with this family during this difficult tragedy," a spokeswoman for the WPD said in a news release.
According to property records, Frey and her husband moved into the home in May.
