WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The transformation of what was an aging, dilapidated area once known as Nesbitt Court near downtown Wilmington is continuing to grow by leaps and bounds.
Nesbitt Court, which was considered an eyesore in Wilmington, has been undergoing a massive makeover since 2010.
"This has now become a thriving area in which you can take your friends and family to eat, drink and play. It's close to Greenfield Lake, of course, Satellite Lounge, and offers plenty of parking," said Molly McDonough, South Front's Regional Director.
Benny's Big Time Pizzeria has opened to rave reviews earlier this year courtesy of Chef Vivian Howard, and more restaurants and spaces to eat and visit are on the horizon in a project known as the "Container Building."
"We have several exciting new tenants going into the building - Second Glass, which is the big sister to the Fortunate Glass, a new yoga studio called Salt Yoga, office spaces, and potentially a juice bar and tech company in the works as well," said McDonough.
McDonough says Second Glass, a wine tasting bar and restaurant should open later this year.
"The container space itself is really exciting because we are using so many different materials," she stated. "We are using containers, the store front glass, metal and cement. It's really a great mixed media building. What we have done is curate a group of people, that will draw people from the area."
Plans are also underway for a 15,000-square foot brewery and tasting room in the Capps Hardware Building that is part of the district.
