Arrest made in weekend shooting that seriously injured woman

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A Fayetteville man is charged with a shooting that seriously injured a woman in downtown Wilmington early Sunday morning.

Brandon Andrew Shields, 22, was arrested by US Marshals in Fayetteville Thursday night, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department. He is accused of shooting Shaquilla Gresham, 24, who was shot after leaving a downtown bar.

Shields is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $275,000 bond.

According to Gresham's sister, LaShan Young, Gresham was driving her car in between Third and Fourth streets when she made a U-turn and got out of her car. Young said she was driving behind her sister.

Young said she initially thought the gunshots were fireworks until she saw her sister on the ground. Gresham was shot in the arm, chest, groin and near her pelvis around 2:30 a.m. Sunday

Shields is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, shooting into an occupied dwelling, carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm in city limits.
