Even the most hardened of hearts would have a difficult time not feeling patriotic this week as the annual naturalization ceremony took place in Southport.
Forty-eight of our newest citizens took the oath of allegiance to the United States of America. It’s a pleasant reprieve from an ongoing debate that doesn’t seem like its coming to a resolution anytime soon.
In the background of the naturalization ceremony is a heated debate about the immigration process.
Those who want to enter this country need to realize there are rules in place to ensure a proper immigration procedure.
And those who already belong in this country need to realize that people have many different reasons for wanting to join us. It’s too easy to just paint people with a broad picture and NOT be compassionate.
Consider This: We have a lot to celebrate in America this week and beyond. We are still a strong country that can do a lot of good if we can only put aside our own differences.
