Gov. Easley Tours Ophelia Damage

SEPTEMBER 15, 2005 -- Governor Mike Easley lives in Brunswick County, and Thursday he returned to the region to see what Ophelia left behind.

In Wilmington, he received a briefing from local leaders. They say the area was well prepared and the effort by federal, state and local officials was well coordinated.

Gov. Easley spent much of the last 48 hours at the state's emergency management headquarters.

"I was going to EMC this morning. I went by there early. I said it's been a long storm. I'll go by early and try to pump everybody up and I got in there and they're more excited than I was," said Gov. Easley.

A prominent local Republican also had high praise for the Democratic governor's performance during the storm.
