Ophelia Pounds Topsail Beach

SEPTEMBER 15, 2005 -- The curfew is now lifted at Topsail Beach after the area took a beating from Hurricane Ophelia.

There was damage to several oceanfront walkways in Topsail Beach. There is also evidence of erosion with sharp drop-offs developing just past the dune line.

Authorities feared some of those dunes would give way during the height of the storm, but it appears that didn't happen.

Power lines are draped over many streets on the south end of Topsail Island, so driving is dangerous in many areas.
