WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The North Carolina Department of Transportation wants to widen lanes on College Road between Gordon Road and Sanders Road and a meeting was held Thursday so the DOT could get public input.

At UNCW's Burney Center, residents spoke with DOT representatives, who didn't give a formal presentation but answered questions and provided information on the project. Written comments are also being accepted until July 30.

Division Project Team Leader David Leonard said the College Road changes could take a long time.

"You have some conventional interchanges, single point urban interchanges. There's a lot of different things we are proposing," Leonard said. "We're also looking at just the quarter as a whole making a lot of improvements too so I guess it's just a much larger project in scale."

DOT officials sought input from residents, business owners and visitors on shaping the road's final design.
