ROSE HILL (WECT) - Emergency crews responded a gas leak that led to the evacuation of several homes in Rose Hill on Wednesday.
Approximately 50 people within a half-mile radius of the scene on East Ridge Street were asked to leave their homes.
Terry McMahon with Duplin County Emergency Services said a railroad car was leaking liquefied petroleum gas. A regional hazmat team from Wilmington was called to monitor the leak.
CSX also assisted and was helping repair the damaged rail car.
Duplin Emergency Services said the leak stopped at 9:15 p.m. and the car was removed from the tracks to be fixed.
People have returned to their homes.
