It is eight years away, but the 2026 World Cup coming to the United States has Wilmington soccer fans excited.
This week, the UNCW men’s soccer team is hosting its skills camp, and those in attendance are eager for the World Cup to come to the U.S.
“It’s pretty exciting to know we will be able to watch our best players play in the U.S.,” said camper Chris Crouch.
Atlanta and Washington, D.C., are the two closest potential host cities, and campers look forward to attending matches.
“It’s really cool,” Jack O’Malley said. “I want to go see a game with my family.”
Some of the campers even have dreams of playing for the national team in eight years.
The U.S. did not qualify for this year’s World Cup, which begins Thursday.
“I am going to work hard to get on the team,” said Adler Sauer.
