NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Officials with Cape Fear Public Utility authorities are warning residents about a possible door-to-door water-related scam in the Kings Grant area.

CFPUA said they've received three reports that people are posing as employees with the utility and advising residents not to drink water and that they will return to draw water samples.

CFPUA said all its employees wear a badge and would not need to enter a resident's home without scheduling in advance.

If you are unsure if a person in your area is a CFPUA employee, you can call customer service at 910-332-6550 to verify.
