Burlington, NC (WECT) -

The West Columbus High School baseball team fought through weather delays and soggy conditions but were unable to come out on top in the 1A State Championship game Saturday night.

The Vikings fell to Murphy 8-5 in the elimination game but turned heads making it this far as a six-seed.

Jerry Locklear, Jr. started the scoring for West Columbus with a 2-RBI double in the first inning, scoring Timothy Soles and Jagger Haynes. The Vikings took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning but Murphy scored five runs to overpower West Columbus.
