Wilmington May get High-Rise in Historic District

SEPTEMBER 09, 2005 -- A planned building would change the look of downtown Wilmington is getting a preliminary okay. The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission approved a permit for a ten story retail and residential building on Market Street.

The commission was deeply split on the decision. They were contemplating whether the building would be an economic plus or an eyesore.

The building would fit into a lot at 121 Market Street.

The commission's vote isn't final. They'll take another look at the issue in November.
