SEPTEMBER 9, 2005 -- A statewide biotechnology center is on its way to Wilmington. Mayor Spence Broadhurst and other city leaders made that announcement Friday morning at City Hall.
The North Carolina Biotechnology Center is a private, non-profit corporation. The center is expected to open by the end of the year and will bring two new jobs, a director and an assistant, but Mayor Broadhurst says that's just the beginning. He says the center has the potential to bring many more high paying jobs to Wilmington.
The biotechnology center has offices in Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Asheville and soon Greenville.
