Harrisburg, VA (WECT) - The UNCW baseball team jumped out to an early lead but Northeastern's clutch hitting in the seventh inning gave the Huskies a 3-2 win and forced a championship game at the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.
Northeastern's Charlie McConnell singled with two outs of Luke Gessell to break a 2-2 tie in the seventh. The Diamond Hawks were unable to push another run across the plate.
Ryan Jeffers provided the offense for UNCW with a first-inning homer and a RBI double in the sixth inning. Despite four innings of allowing just one hit, Diamond Hawk's Luke Gessell was handed the loss.
The second championship game and final game of the tournament is set to start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at Veteran's Memorial Park.
