Whiteville holds on to beat North Lenior in Game 1 of 2A East finals

WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) - The Whiteville High School baseball team beat North Lenoir 4-2 in Game 1 of the 2A East finals at Legion Stadium in Whiteville on Wednesday.

Whiteville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Jake Harwood tripled home Brooks Baldwin. Harwood then scored on a wild pitch to give the Wolfpack a 2-0 lead after one.

Jack Inman put Whiteville on top 3-0 when he doubled home Mathew Smith in the third inning.

Dylan Lawson earned the victory after giving up two runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Game 2 of the best-of-3 series is scheduled for Friday at North Lenoir at 7 p.m.
