The New Hanover High School baseball team beat Terry Sanford 3-0 in Game 1 of the 3A East finals series at Buck Hardee Field on Tuesday.
Wildcats starter Brayden Barry pitched a complete game, giving up two hits and striking out seven in seven innings.
"From a pitching standpoint, getting three runs in the bottom of the first (inning) against a team like that, it just settles you down," said Barry.
Brett Kemp gave New Hanover (25-0) the lead when his sacrifice fly scored Jac Croom in the first.
Three batters later, Jonathan Manis hit a double that scored two runs.
Game 2 is Thursday at Terry Sanford at 7 p.m.
