New Bridge to be Named After Dan Cameron

SEPTEMBER 8, 2005 -- The late Dan Cameron will soon have his mark on Wilmington, the city he helped build.

County commissioners decided to name the new bridge on the Wilmington bypass the "Dan Cameron Memorial Bridge."  The stretch is nearly two miles long and is located on interstate 140 over the Cape Fear River.

Cameron died in July after a battle with melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.

The board of transportation has to vote on the name.  That should be complete in November, just before the bridge opens.
