NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Are you affected by the opioid crisis or know someone who is?
The opioid epidemic has affected many in the Cape Fear Region and people sometimes don't know where to go for help.
"Part of our greater strategic plan is to tackle the opioid and substance abuse crisis in our community and we define that as a public health issue," said Phillip Tarte, New Hanover County health director. "Along with all the other avenues and activities that are taking place, we took it amongst ourselves to launch a new website."
The website helps addicts, doctors, law enforcement, and concerned citizens navigate this ongoing issue. It has information about treatment options, recovery centers, where to find Narcan and how it works, a map of medication drop boxes, and a direct number for pregnant women to call if they are using drugs. Educational resources for teachers are also included.
"The greatest achievement I think we have is giving individuals a one-stop shop for information," Tarte said. "That information has to be relevant, timely and it gives them resources they customarily wouldn't be able to find. We think the web page does that."
