Eighth inning run pushes Cougars past Diamond Hawks

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Clay Hunt drove in two runs, including the game-winner in the eighth inning, as the College of Charleston baseball team beat UNCW 6-5 Friday at Brooks Field.

UNCW (33-20, 14-9 Colonial Athletic Association) dropped to fourth place in the league standings entering the final day of regular season play. The Cougars (35-17, 15-8) moved into a tie for second with Elon.

Mason Berne put the Seahawks on top 2-0 in the first inning when hit he a two-run home run, his 12th of the season. Berne has now reached base safely in 47 straight games.

Reliever Logan Beehler (1-1) allowed the game-winning run in the top of the eighth when Hunt hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Luke Morgan.

The series concludes Saturday with a 2 p.m. start.
