PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

There will be a recount in the Pender County Commissioner District 3 Republican primary race.

After Friday's vote canvass, challenger David Fallin trailed incumbent commissioner George Brown by 30 votes, 1,971 to 1,941.

Fallin's total falls within 1 percent of the total votes cast in the race, giving him the option of calling for a recount. He delivered a letter to the Board of Elections Friday requesting the recount.

Elections Director Dennis Boyles says the recount is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 24 at the Board of Elections office in Burgaw.

Boyles did not have information on what time the recount would take place.
