WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) -

Family and friends remember an adventurous life each year at the Stoked to Go Out Pier-to-Pier swim.

Grey Liston died in 2013 in a mountaineering accident at Mount Olympus National Park. Before he climbed mountains, Grey climbed a lifeguard stand in Wrightsville Beach, where he worked for four summers — the perfect job for a UNCW swimmer.

David Sokolofsky, who was a close friend of Liston’s, organizes the race.

He said it’s the perfect way to remember Liston.

This year’s swim is Saturday, May 19 at Wrightsville Beach.

The swim is just under two miles. Swimmers can register the morning of the swim, which begins at 9 a.m.
