BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Duke Energy and Brunswick County authorities are investigating why an emergency siren on Caswell Beach malfunctioned and began going off Thursday morning.
According to Duke Energy officials, the siren is part of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant's emergency siren network.
Despite the siren sounding, the nuclear plant is operating safely and there is no emergency at the plant, according to Duke Energy officials.
The Caswell Beach siren is one of 38 emergency sirens located within 10 miles of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant. The sirens are tested quarterly throughout the year.
