CHADBOURN, NC (WECT) - A Whiteville City Schools teacher was killed and her son seriously injured in a crash in Chadbourn Wednesday afternoon.
Angela Bullard, a teacher with Whiteville City Schools, died in the wreck.
"The WCS family is deeply saddened by the loss of Angela Bullard," said Charles K. Garland, superintendent of Whiteville City Schools. "A 12-year veteran of the system, Ms Bullard will be known for her courage, compassion, and caring for students. The classroom teacher is the primary factor in a child's education. Ms Bullard, through her efforts as an educator, has made an impact on the lives of the many students she served during her career.
"The loss of Ms Bullard will leave a void in our system and she will be greatly missed."
According to the News Reporter, an SUV hit a tree after losing control on wet pavement on East Institute Street near Cherokee Chapel Baptist Church around 2:30 p.m.
The SUV then went off the roadway and into a ditch.
A witness says that a male passenger was ejected from the rear window into the woods and the female driver was entrapped and had to be cut out of the vehicle.
Whiteville Rescue, Roseland Fire and Cerro Gordo Fire and Rescue assisted in the crash.
The Chadbourn Police Department is investigating the crash.
