Dozens of Cape Fear Public Utility customers are under a boil water advisory after a water main break in the area of Cherokee Trail and Masonboro Loop Road in New Hanover County.

According to a CFPUA news release, the following areas are affected:

  • All of Pelican Point Road
  • 100 block of Cherokee Trail
  • 101 and 105 Whipporwill Lane
  • 1417, 1505, 15112 Masonboro Loop Road
  • 101 Cheyenne Trail

CFPUA officials will hand deliver notices to the residential customers who are affected.

Customers in the above-described area are asked to boil their water for one minute then allow it to cool prior to consumption or utilize another water source such as bottled water.

Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing, pet consumption, and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do not need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.

The precautionary boil water advisory shall be in effect until water quality testing has occurred and service is returned to normal.  When testing is completed, typically within 24 hours, and service is returned to normal, the advisory will be lifted.
