HARRISONBURG, Va. — UNCW used a walk, a bunt and two James Madison throwing errors in the top of the 10th inning to beat the Dukes 5-4 in a Colonial Athletic Association baseball game on Friday night.
Kep Brown walked with one out in the 10th, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and throwing error, then scored on another JMU throwing error to give the Seahawks (RECORD) a victory in Game 1 of the three-game series.
Hunter Johnson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth for the Dukes (21-21, 6-10) to force extra innings.
Mason Berne was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, Brown was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Jackson Meadows finished 3-for-3 with a pair of runs to lead the UNCW offense. David Shaeffer added two hits and an RBI for the Seahawks.
Austin Warren (6-0) pitched 2.1 innings of relief to earn the victory and Clark Cota worked around two walks in the 10th to notch his 10th save of the season.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Saturday.
