WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW baseball allowed Elon to grab an early lead and was unable to rally in a 6-2 loss at Brooks Field Saturday afternoon.

The Phoenix capitalized on an error in the first inning to push two runs across the plate and didn't give up the lead. Landen Roupp (0-3) allowed just one earned run but still took the loss.

Elon tacked on a run in the fourth inning and James Venuto's two-out RBI single extended the lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning.

Zack Canada, Greg Jones and David Sheaffer each had two hits for the Seahawks (26-17, 8-6 CAA). Mason Berne got on base in the ninth inning with a single, extending his consecutive games reached safely streak to 36.

The Phoenix and Seahawks will play the rubber match at Brooks Field Sunday at 2 p.m.
