COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Social media and community tips helped the Columbus County Sheriff's Office make an arrest in a breaking and entering case recently.

According to a CCSO news release, Keanan Davon Young, 19, of Lumberton, was arrested Friday at his residence in Robeson County and placed in the Columbus County Jail under a $25,500 bond. He is charged with one count of breaking and entering and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon — both felonies — and one misdemeanor count of injury to real property.

On April 19, Columbus County deputies were dispatched to a residence on Smyrna Road in Whiteville in reference to an alarm call.

Via security cameras, the homeowners saw an unknown man in their home. The suspect fled on foot and no property was stolen.

Still photos from the video footage, including shots of the man with a gun in his hand while on the victims' property, were shared on social media and the sheriff's office began receiving tips on the suspect's identity.

Once the suspect was located, CCSO interviewed him about the break-in and warrants were obtained for his arrest.

The Robeson County Sheriff's Office and Robeson County Probation assisted Columbus County authorities with the investigation.
