Two inches of rain on Tuesday didn’t cause any problems for UNCW’s baseball game on Wednesday.
Director of Grounds & Sports Turf Drew Hall and his crew started getting the field ready for the rain on Monday afternoon.
"Before the rain, we punched down about six inches around the field to allow the rain to drain,” said Hall. “We put the tarp down Monday, which kept the water off the infield.”
The work paid off.
“We came in and pulled the tarp and we were ready to play about 12 p.m. (Wednesday)," said Hall.
Hall says he is always monitoring the weather, checking it 15 to 20 times a day.
