Plans are under review for a 15,000 square foot brewery and tasting room in Wilmington's South Front District.
The Tribute Companies said in a news release the New Anthem Beer Project's mission is to "make beer, the best we can, every time, without exception."
A time frame for construction is not yet known. The brewery will be housed in the former Capps Industrial Supply warehouse.
“Capps is huge and begged for something bold and charismatic," said Molly McDonough, South Front's regional director. "A brewery always made sense, but New Anthem is a match made in hoppy heaven. Speaking to (owner) Aaron (Skiles) and understanding his philosophies in beer and life, it was immediately clear that New Anthem was the right fit”.
According to the news release, New Anthem has been producing beer in the Wilmington area since 2016. Skiles started making brews as a hobby, but it quickly became more.
"New Anthem has been one of our best-selling brands since they started putting beer out in the market," Skiles said. "They have a base here locally, but they've also developed a reputation around the state for consistently producing great beers in a variety of styles."
In the new facility, New Anthem will be able to brew beer more efficiently as well as create a second taproom and retail space for the brand.
“(We) look forward to many years bringing Cape Fear and North Carolina the best craft beer we know how to make," Skiles said.
