Seven student-athletes signed national letters of intent Monday at Ashley High School.
Three Screaming Eagles football players -- Elijah Robinson, Joe Barbera and Freddie Thames -- are headed to play in college.
"It's just a blessing to go to the next level,” Thames said about signing with St. Andrews. “I always dreamed about it as a kid."
It’s the most players coach Jeff Turner has had sign in his three years at Ashley.
Robinson, who is headed to Louisburg College, said he believes he and his teammates beat the odds after Ashley finished 4-7 last season.
"The three of us have proved that you don't have to win all the games to take it to the next level," said Robinson.
Joe Barbera will attend Elon next year, and hopes to be an example for others.
"You can go to college and play football,” said Barbera. “I am not a freak athlete, and I know that, but I will be able to use what I have and get a good education at Elon."
The other Ashley athletes who signed on Monday are:
Price King, Brunswick Community College, baseball
Jessica Russ, N.C. State, cheerleading
Nathan Ellen, Brevard College, lacrosse
Tyler Tranchon, Limestone College, lacrosse
