Local Hurricane Katrina Relief

-All Movie Gallery locations will be drop-off sites for monetary donations and non-perishable items. They will then be transported to Louisiana .

-The Burnett Veterinary Hospital and Horton Farms are collecting donations for animal victims of Hurricane Katrina. Monetary donations for the Hurricane Emergency Animal Response Team (or HEART) can be made at any First Citizens Bank. The account number is 96311339. You can also donate food through Milam Hardware in Burgaw. You can pay for the items with your credit card and the store will get the supplies to Burnett Hospital . Or you can drop off supplies at the hospital at 423 Highway 117 on the bypass in Burgaw. Call 910-259-3818.

-The Surf City Pier at 112 S. Shore Dr. has become a drop-off point for bottled water and other drinks. There will be a truck parked at the pier until Saturday, September 10 when they will be driven to the Gulf Coast . Donations will be accepted between 8:00am and 8:00pm . -R&T Trucking is taking donations of canned foods, water and other non-perishable, non-breakable household items to take to Mississippi. Donations are being taken at Porters Neck Veterinary Hospital and some local fire departments. Call 910-270-9644 for more information.

-The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is accepting groups of five to ten people who are prepared to go into Mobile , AL and Biloxi , MS with Samaritans Purse to assist with tree removal and flood related projects. Interested teams can call the center at 799-9321.

-The Contractor Yard in Wilmington is accepting donations of water, non-perishable foods, hygiene products and medical supplies to send to the hurricane victims. Starting Sept. 6 you can drop off supplies at the Contractor Yard at 252 S. Kerr Ave. Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm . All donations will go to the local food banks and be distributed directly to Hurricane Katrina victims.

-The town of Wrightsville Beach is hosting a concert fundraiser to collect funds for the hurricane victims. The concert will be from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Wrightsville Beach Park on Thursday, Sept. 8. It will feature the “Pantastic Steele Drum Band.” Monetary donations will be accepted and food and drinks will be sold with profits going toward hurricane relief. -The postal service in Wilmington is collecting non-perishable food for the hurricane victims. You can leave the items in your mailbox or in a bag on your porch and your postal carrier will pick them up. You can also drop off donations with the window clerks at the post office. Postal officials will make sure the items get to the hurricane victims.

-Copper’s Restaurant in Conway , SC will have a Hurricane Katrina Italian dinner Sunday, Sept. 25 from 1:00pm to 7:00pm . The minimum donation is $15 per person, $5 for children. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. Copper’s Restaurant is on the corner of 2 nd and Laurel Streets. Call 488-0783 for more information.

-The Sloop Point Volunteer Fire Department on Highway 17 in Hampstead is now a drop-off point for hurricane relief donations. Any non-perishable food and drink items, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, and paper products are welcome. For more information call 619-4864.

-Buffalo Wild Wings in Wilmington is holding a hurricane benefit Friday, Sept. 9. 5% of all sales from all three locations will go to the relief fund and servers are donating part of their tips. The Food Bank will also be on location collecting food and donations. The UNCW Veterinary Society will be collecting pet food and donations for displaced animals. There will also be a silent auction with items from area businesses with all proceeds going to the relief fund.

- All Columbus County Fire and Rescue facilities have boxes on hand for people to drop off donations and canned food items for the hurricane victims.

-The annual American Legion Shrimp Boil will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at Post 129 and will be an opportunity to raise money for the hurricane victims. The dinner is from 1:00pm to 7:00pm . All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. The minimum donation is $10. Post 129 is located at 1500 Bridge Barrier Rd. in Carolina Beach . Call 458-4253 for more information.

-The Brunswick County Social Services Association and Operation Services will sponsor a Boston Butt fundraiser to aid in the Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief on September 23. The fundraiser will run from 11:00am to 2:00pm with a charge of $6.00 per plate consisting of pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and dessert. There will also be additional baked goods for sale. 100% of proceeds will be sent for the relief effort. Donations will also be accepted. -The Happy Kids Development Center will have a car wash and bake sale to raise money for the hurricane victims. The event is Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10:00am . All money will go to the American Red Cross.

-Sticky Fingers has placed Salvation Army bins at the restaurant at 5044 Mark et Street for toiletries, baby necessities and bottled water for the hurricane victims.

-Carolina Cantina is having a car wash in the restaurant parking lot at 5031 Mark et Street to benefit the hurricane victims. The car wash is Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11:00am to 3:00pm . All the monetary donations will be sent to American Second Harvest which provides food for the hurricane victims. Call 395-4101 for more information.

-Fat Tony’s will hold a hurricane relief benefit Saturday, Sept. 10 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at the restaurant at 131 N. Front Street . Band p roceeds will go to the Salvation Army. The benefit will feature the Wilmington Big Band.

-The Upper School Student Government Association at Harrells Christian Academy is having a car wash to support the hurricane victims. It will be Wednesday, Sept. 14 in the parking lot of the school on Tomahawk Highway in Harrells. All money will benefit the American Red Cross.

-J. Michael’s Philly Deli is trying to “Bring Back the Smile to New Orleans .” They are taking donations for the hurricane victims at each of the three restaurants in Wilmington. With every donation you will get a free green and purple ribbon.

-The ADR Fire and Rescue will hold a “boot shake” Saturday, Sept. 10 at the County Line Kwik Shop and Riegelwood Shopping Center to collect hurricane relief funds. It will run from 12:00pm to 2:00pm . They are also collecting supplies at the firehouse in Riegelwood.

-Capt’n Bill’s Backyard Grill is hosting a volleyball tournament to raise money for the hurricane victims. Sign up begins Monday, Sept. 19. The price per team is $100 with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. The tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9:00am to 2:00pm at Capt’n Bill’s at 4240 Mark et Street . There will be live music, a raffle, a volleyball serving contest, and giveaways.
