WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Crews responded to the scene where a body was found in Greenfield Lake Sunday morning.

According to Lt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, the body has been identified as Justin Stroupe who was reported missing on Wednesday.

The body was found in the lake at East Lake Shore Drive and Yaupon Drive.

WPD, the fire department and EMS responded to the scene.

Brewer said the death investigation is being conducted by the Wilmington Police Department.

Neighbors at the Cypress Grove apartment complex, which backs up to the lake, called police after seeing Stroupe’s body in the lake Sunday morning.

According to Candace Roberts who lives in the complex, she was shocked and scared when she heard the news.

Roberts said she is now looking for a new place to live.

”My first thought was, we definitely need to move now because it’s always dark around here and you never know if somebody is hiding or what could happen, so it seems kind of dangerous living by the dark lake,” Roberts said.

“It [the neighborhood] just seems to be unsafe and it’s dark. Sometimes my dad walks over here to visit and I would hate for him to be walking over here and something happen to him this way,” she said.
