PHILADELPHIA, PA (WECT) - A pair of tight games on the softball diamond fell the Seahawks thanks to a balanced offensive effort against Drexel on Saturday afternoon.
UNCW swept the doubleheader against the Dragons and improved its record to 14-22 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
In game one, Sophomore Kaly Winslow was asked to pinch hit in the sixth inning and hit a three-run homer to give the Seahawks a one-run lead. The team didn't look back from there as Haley Lenderman didn't allow a hit in the final two innings of the 6-5 win. Lenderman picked up her first save of the season and junior Sarah Davis (3-7) earned the win.
In game two, Anna Knox paced the Seahawks with a two-run double in the second inning and UNCW jumped out to a sizable 7-1. Drexel did make a comeback but UNCW slammed the door in the final frame to secure the win.
The Seahawks and Dragons close out the weekend series Sunday morning with first pitch set for 10 a.m.
