2 taken to hospital after head-on crash in New Hanover County

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Two people were taken to the hospital following a head-on crash in New Hanover County Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. on US 421 North near the interchange with I-140.

According to Trooper Phillips with the NC Highway Patrol, a Honda Civic was traveling southbound on US 421 when it was rear-ended by a Toyota passenger car.

The force of the crash pushed the Civic into oncoming traffic where it hit a truck head-on at an estimated 55 mph.

The driver of the Civic suffered serious injuries and was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for emergency surgery. The truck driver was released from the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was charged with failure to reduce speed.
