WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A show coming up on Wednesday in Wilmington plans to provide more than just laughs.

The Primetime Variety Show at TheatreNOW features live music, stand-up comedy, improv, poetry and an open mic. Hosted by Wilmington comedian Wills Maxwell, the show starts at 8 p.m. with open mic sign-ups beginning at 7.

Proceeds from the show benefit Wilmington's Superstar Academy, an educational outreach component of Theatre Network of Wilmington Inc. The academy's mission is to extend low cost or free theatre arts education to school age children in our community.

Zach Hanner, the academy's director, visited the WECT studio to discuss the academy and the show on Monday's First at Four.

TheatreNOW is located at 19 South 10th Street and tickets for Wednesday's show cost $5. Click here for more information.
