MacKenzie Gore, one of the top pitching prospects in Major League Baseball, is schedule to make his 2018 debut Tuesday for the Fort Wayne Tincaps, the Class-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
Gore, a native of Whiteville, will face off against the Lansing Lugnuts at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, Ind. at 7p.m.
“I am excited for the season, and it will be fun to play in front of some fans and try to win some games” said Gore.
Gore has been dealing with a blister on his pitching hand, but said Monday that he’s fine and ready to go.
The 19-year-old lefty dominated in the rookie league last summer, starting seven games and striking out 34 batters in 21 1/3 innings. Now he’s ready for his first full season of professional baseball.
“I want to make some quality starts and get my innings in,” Gore said about his goals for the upcoming season.
He comes into the season bigger and stronger, saying he’s gained 10 to 15 pounds in the offseason.
Major League Baseball ranks Gore as the top left-handed pitching prospect in all of baseball.
The San Diego Padres selected Gore third overall in the 2017 MLB draft.
