East Carolina is bringing back one of its former head coaches to lead the men's basketball program.
According to an ECU news release, Joe Dooley has agreed to terms on a five-year contract to coach the Pirates. He is set to be introduced at an 11 a.m. news conference on Thursday.
Dooley was the head coach at East Carolina from 1995-99 and is the program's all-time leader in winning percentage (.523), going 57-53 during his ECU tenure. When he was hired at age 29 to coach the Pirates, Dooley was the youngest Division I men's basketball skipper in the country.
For the last five seasons, Dooley has coached Florida Gulf Coast, leading the Eagles to five Atlantic Sun Conference championships and five consecutive 20-win seasons. FGCU played in the NCAA tournament in 2016 and 2017.
East Carolina last appeared in the NCAAs in 1993.
