Paint cannons and more during Park Day at Fort Fisher

FORT FISHER, NC (WECT) - More than 800,000 people visit Fort Fisher State historic site each year. So, it's important to keep the site looking its best.

This Saturday, April 7, you have an opportunity to pitch in.

Park Day, a nationwide event sponsored by the Civil War Trust, invites volunteers to help with projects at Fort Fisher State Historic Site.

Since 2009, 430 volunteers have offered 1,854 hours to assist with various projects.

Volunteers helped protect the fort by replacing fencing, installing roadside barriers and painting anchors and cannons.
