WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - When Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his final speech, one day before his assassination, high school students who are now learning about his legacy weren't even alive. Many of their parents weren't either.

Some local students, however, are getting a chance to speak his words. Students from Williston and New Hanover High schools recently filmed a video tribute to Dr. King's last speech. The students recited portions of Dr. King's 'I've been to the Mountaintop' speech. The vignettes were filmed at Williston.

The video is part of a large tribute to Dr. King leading up to the 50th anniversary of his assassination. The MLK commission will host an event at Williston April 4, the day Dr. King was killed. That event is from 6:30-8 p.m.
