WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A blustery atmospheric disturbance will support a low-end precipitation chance as it streaks through the Cape Fear Region Wednesday. A cold temperature pattern will continue through Wednesday night but a warming trend is likely for Thursday into Friday. Your forecast for...

WEDNESDAY: Expect a partly cloudy and chilly day. A stray sprinkle is possible and a few fleeting sleet pellets or snowflakes aren't entirely impossible. Temperatures will fight their way to the upper 40s and lower 50s amid feisty northwest winds that could gust more than 25 mph at times.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Expect clear skies and cold conditions. Temperatures will plummet through the 40s and into the 30s in the evening and a still-frisky northwest breeze could force wind chill values into the 20s at times. Frost will possible in sheltered areas amid late-night lows within a few degrees of 30.

The National Weather Service carries a Freeze Warning for all of the Cape Fear Region for late Wednesday night through early Thursday morning. With near or slightly below-freezing temperatures expected, take steps to protect tender plants.

THE LONGER-RANGE: Thursday will have sun and a milder breeze flow with afternoon highs in the 50s to near 60. Amid partly cloudy skies and a very low-end rain chance, temperatures will swell to the 60s to near 70 Friday. Expect weekend highs in the 50s and 60s with low to medium shower chances.
