BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Brunswick County man died after his SUV struck a tree early Sunday morning.
According to Sgt. King with the NC State Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred just before 1 a.m. on NC 904 near SR 1300 in Brunswick County.
Casimiro Barron, 50, of Ash, was traveling east on NC 904 when he lost control of his 2000 Nissan Pathfinder upon exiting a curve. The vehicle ran off the roadway to the right, began overturning, and struck a tree. The Pathfinder eventually came to rest in a yard off NC 904.
Barron was entrapped in the vehicle and eventually died from his injuries. An investigation revealed that Barron wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
King said other contributing factors to the crash were speeding and alcohol use.
No other people were injured in the accident.
