Carolina Beach town council votes to purchase Freeman Park property

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Carolina Beach Town Council voted Tuesday night to purchase about 14 acres of privately-owned land in Freeman Park for $500,000.

The property's address is 0 Freeman Park, which is near the north end of Freeman Park. It is currently owned by Richard Burnette Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida, according to documents prepared for the meeting.

The town intends to use the property as open space, should council members approve the purchase. Currently, there are no plans on how to use the property for beach to sound access, a town spokesperson said Monday.

A $50,000 initial earnest money deposit has already been paid, according to documents.
