Ryan Jeffers had three hits, including his fifth homer of the season, as UNCW finished off a series win at Arizona State with a 3-1 victory on Sunday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The Seahawks ran their record to 11-4 while the Sun Devils dipped to 8-8.

Jeffers gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead with a leadoff homer in the top of the fifth inning. It was his second homer of the weekend.

UNCW's pitching staff, though, was the story of the day. Four hurlers combined to allow just a run and scatter eight hits. Senior Austin Warren (3-0) picked up the win going 2 2/3 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out three. Junior Clark Cota notched his fifth save of the season, retiring the side in order in the ninth.

Boyd Vander Kooi (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season. The righthander allowed all three runs, two earned, on eight hits and a pair of walks over 5 2/3 innings.

Trevor Hauver joined Alika Williams and Drew Swift with two-hit games for ASU.

Up next: UNCW returns to Brooks Field for a mid-week series with Ohio State. The series opens on Tuesday and concludes on Wednesday. Both games are 4 p.m. starts.

How it happened: Senior David Sheaffer drew the Seahawks even in the third with a sacrifice fly. Jeffers gave UNCW a 2-1 lead with a round tripper and in the fifth inning, senior Zack Canada pushed another un across with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.

Inside the box score: UNCW pitching allowed just two two-out hits while limiting ASU to 1-11 with RISP … The Seahawks played a clean game, not committing an error … Seahawks pitchers allowed the leadoff hitter to reach base four times, but ASU hit just .211 with runners on base.

NotesDoug Angeli pushed his hitting streak to six games with a single in the third inning … Canada has now reached base safely in 10 straight games … UNCW starter Landen Roupp allowed six hits over his 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run, walking one and striking out three … Reliever Blake Morgan allowed just a walk in his inning of relief … ASU hit just .200 (13-65) over the final two games of the weekend.
