On Saturday, Mission Wilmington Church partnered with Together We Rise, a non-profit to help support children in the foster care system.
Volunteers packed 20 duffel bags with a teddy bear, crayons, a coloring book, and a hygiene kit.
"When I unwrapped the box, and pulled out each case, it's like you know you're holding something that's going to go to a life," said Founding Pastor Dave Holt. "So it's beyond just a bag, just a teddy bear, and just a coloring book. This is going to be just monumental to these kids' lives."
People of all ages joined - even kids, who decorated the bags with positive pictures and messages.
The pastor who organized the event said it might seem small, but the gifts for the foster kids carry powerful meaning.
"Instead of just having a trash bag with all their stuff thrown into it as they go from placement to placement, they actually have their own bag, which gives them some value and dignity and lets them know they're cared for and loved by people," said Holt.
Holt said they will donate the packed duffel bags to the Bair Foundation who will give it to the foster children.
