West Brunswick High School has hired one of its own to take over the Trojans football program.
West Brunswick Athletic Director Jimmy Fletcher confirmed that former Trojan standout Brett Hickman has been hired as football coach. The move was approved at a school board meeting Tuesday night.
Hickman was a football and baseball standout at West Brunswick from 2000-04. Most recently, he was on the coaching staff at Gardner-Webb where he worked with running backs and tight ends.
He takes over for Kelly Williamson, who stepped down in January after going 18-19 in three seasons.
Last year, West Brunswick finished 4-8, and lost to New Hanover in the first round of the 3AA playoffs.
