Fun, fabulous garden hats prepared for Azalea Festival garden tour

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - With the annual Azalea Festival right around the corner, the city is busy getting ready for all that it entails, including the Cape Fear Garden club who was busy Wednesday morning decorating their fabulous hats for the Azalea Garden Tour.

Every Cape Fear Garden Club member is required to sit in a garden during the garden tour as a hostess.

While serving as a host of the tour, they all wear extravagant hats that they personally decorate.

Wednesday they got those hats ready by hosting a hat decorating class at the New Hanover County Arboretum.

Hat decorator Karin Atkins, along with the CFGC flower arranging committee lead the participants in designing themed hats for the tour.

About 15 original hats were designed during the workshop.

This was the first time the hat decorating workshop was held. Atkins said with the turnout and positive feedback they received from it this year, they will most likely continue this for years to come.

The Azalea Garden tour will be held Apr. 13-15.
