BURGAW, NC (WECT) - A judge has ruled the man accused in the killing of a 23-year-old Burgaw man remain in jail without bond.

Corey Alexander Todd, 21, is charged with first-degree murder in the Feb. 26 shooting death of Rakeem Brown.

Brown was shot as he was walking in the area of Satchwell and Bodenheimer streets in Burgaw around 2:30 p.m. His girlfriend drove him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Burgaw Police Department identified Todd as the suspect early Wednesday. At around 3:35 p.m. that afternoon, Todd turned himself into authorities, according to officials.

In brief first court appearance Thursday morning, a judge set Todd's next court date for March 14.
